What does 'documentary photographer' mean?
The documentary approach is a bit different from a traditional photographer, as you'll spend much less time posing and instead focusing on being together.
As someone who loves this style of shooting, I prefer to give you fun prompts and have you interact with one another rather than staring down my lens.
During my sessions, I'll still give you some small prompts and guidance (like having you simply walk and hold hands!), but I also like to find the moments of you two simply existing like you do in your everyday life. These photos are always the most honest reflection of your relationship, and that's what I'm here to capture.
how do i know if you're a good fit?
If you're looking for a photographer who is going to give you exact directions for a bunch of posed photos, I'm going to be honest with you: I'm probably not the photographer you're looking for.
However, if your hope is to look back at your photos and remember how your day actually felt - then I’m so excited to say I’m your gal!!
My approach is much more relaxed. I’ll absolutely step in with direction when you need it (because I know being in front of a camera can feel a little awkward!), but I’m much more interested in capturing the two of you interacting naturally than getting you into the “perfect” pose :)
I want the laughing-until-your-face-hurts photos, the little glances at each other, the hand squeezes, the wind messing up your hair, and all the tiny in-between moments you probably didn’t even realize I was photographing.
Why work with a photographer who specializes in City Hall and intimate weddings?
City Hall ceremonies are much shorter than a typical wedding ceremony — which means you’ll want someone who knows how to capture all of those important moments quickly.
While a traditional ceremony might last 30 minutes or more, a City Hall ceremony can be over in as little as 5–15 minutes (depending on whether you’re including your own vows!). Having photographed more than a dozen of these ceremonies, I know how quickly they move, where I need to be, and how to work within these smaller spaces without taking you out of the moment.
Beyond that, I really just love how intimate these celebrations are. Whether it’s just the two of you or you’re surrounded by a handful of your favorite people, I know this day holds just as much meaning as a wedding in front of 100 guests — and I treat it that way. You’re still getting married!! It deserves to be documented and celebrated like the big deal that it is. 🤍
