The Perfect Location For Readers

When Emily reached out about wanting photos in a place that reflected her love of books — a library — I knew we needed a location that felt meaningful, cozy, and authentic.

While the Boston Public Library does require a paid photography permit, the Brookline Public Library allows photos with prior permission and communication with staff, making it a fantastic alternative for couples who want that literary, intimate atmosphere without the permitting barrier.

Whether you imagine classic marble arches and grand architecture, or warm wooden shelves and quiet reading nooks — we can absolutely make that vision come to life.

During the session, I really wanted to let this reflect their curious nature — in each other and in the stories they love. We took photos wandering between tall bookshelves, pausing to look through books and share little moments of connection.

Best Times for Library Photos

Libraries each have their own rhythm — knowing when to shoot makes all the difference:

  • Right when the library opens — quiet, calm, minimal foot traffic
  • Weekday mornings — the best time for fewer patrons
  • Avoid mid-afternoons — tends to be busier
  • Near large windows during daylight — soft, flattering light
  • On rainy or overcast days — surprisingly magical

I’ll always help you choose the best time for your specific library — every location has its sweet spot! I personally like taking a peek at google maps first and seeing when the busy times of the library are.
