Let's Make Engagement Photos Fun!

If you're in the middle of planning your engagement photos, you're probably feeling a lot of stress as you approach them. That's why I'm here to help. I want to shift your perspective and help you feel really excited about this moment, rather than anxious. I want you to be looking forward to our session - not feeling nervous about the camera!

So, how do we do this? Well, instead of just planning photos, let's sprinkle in an activity you'd genuinely love to do! Boston is the perfect location for this. We can explore nature along the Emerald Necklace, or pop around North End and stop by a bar. Bowling, aquariums, bike rides! Let's make your session, whatever the occasion, reflect how you like to spend time together.

A Different Approach

If the thought of taking engagement photos absolutely terrifies you, you’re not alone!! Most people don't feel super comfortable in front of a camera. But that's why I think it helps to get you both in a place where you feel comfortable.

Let's shift the perspective. Instead of thinking this as a photoshoot, think about it as time together. Why not choose a place you already love to be, or do something that feels familiar - like wandering a bookstore, visiting the MFA, or revisiting something you did on one of your first dates?

Ultimately, viewing the session as more than a photoshoot creates a valuable opportunity to slow down, reflect on your relationship, and have fun with your partner. By letting go of expectations and simply enjoying time together, the photos come organically, and the experience often feels like one of the best dates you've had.

Why treat it like a date?

Well, to make it simple, your engagement photos are literally a date! This is a moment where you get to be overly affectionate and just have fun.

Whether you want to walk in a quiet location, go for a coffee, or do a fun activity like ice-skating in the Common - the occasion should feel special, and true to your relationship.

You can make the whole day special by doing something meaningful before and after our session.

Boston Is the Perfect Place for a Date-Style Engagement Session

Every day I feel so thankful to live in this incredible city and be able to photograph couples here!! Boston really is the perfect place for a date-like engagement session. Whether you want to kick things off with a cozy coffee in Beacon Hill beforehand, or do something playful like stopping at an arcade in Fenway, the options are genuinely endless.

The city is also incredibly walkable and easy to move through, which makes it ideal for engagement photos that feel relaxed and natural. We can spend a full two-hour session exploring multiple neighborhoods, walking, pausing, sitting for a moment when something feels right, and letting the experience unfold without rushing. Even public transportation — as much as we all love to complain about it — can become part of the experience, creating candid, in-between moments as you travel together.

From quiet side streets to lively corners of the city, Boston gives us natural movement and built-in pauses, which is exactly why engagement photos here work so well when they’re treated like a date! If you're wondering where to get started in finding a location, you can see my location guide here.

What Happens During Our Session

You’re probably wondering how a photoshoot could possibly feel like a date — which is totally fair.

The answer is two-fold.

First, choosing a location that involves an activity instantly changes the experience. That might look like bowling, ice skating, visiting a museum, or doing something you already enjoy together. When there’s an activity involved, the session naturally becomes a shared experience rather than a traditional photoshoot. And just to note — the entire session doesn’t have to revolve around the activity. It can simply be one part of it!

Second, even something as simple as walking through a neighborhood or along the Emerald Necklace can feel like a date.

My approach is documentary and motion-filled, which means we won’t spend much time in stiff poses. Instead, we’ll focus on how you naturally move together — walking, pausing, talking, laughing — the little in-between moments that already exist when you’re just spending time with your person.

Activities We Can Explore

Your engagement session doesn’t have to happen around a date — the location itself can be the date! Here is an extensive list of ideas of things we can do in the Boston area!

Nature or wandering

  • Walking the Emerald Necklace or a picnic in the Public Garden
  • Exploring the outdoor spaces near the MFA
  • A local aquarium

Playful / movement

  • Ice skating on the Boston Common
  • A bike ride through Brookline neighborhoods
  • Bowling, arcade games, or something a little unexpected

Everyday moments

  • Grabbing coffee or a sweet treat
  • Browsing a bookstore or small shop
  • Ending near somewhere you already plan to go (dinner, drinks, etc.)

Of course, don’t need to do everything on this list. One simple activity is often more than enough to help your engagement photos feel natural, unforced, and genuinely like time spent together!

Make a Day of It

Finally, one of the easiest ways to make your engagement session feel like a date is to truly make a day of it. While sessions can be a couple hours, dates rarely start and end on a timer.

Think of your photos as part of a bigger day together.

That might look like grabbing a cozy coffee beforehand, planning a meal at your favorite restaurant after, or doing something simple you already love. You could pick up a bottle of wine on your way home, take a quiet walk with your pup, or just linger without a schedule.

Leaving space around your session means you’re not watching the clock or rushing to the next plan. When there’s nowhere else you have to be, everything feels more relaxed — and that ease shows up naturally in your photos.

Let's Connect

If you’re stuck between a few ideas, that’s completely normal. Planning your engagement session should feel collaborative, not stressful — and I’m always happy to help you narrow things down or suggest locations that fit the vibe you’re drawn to.

At the end of the day, the best engagement photos come from choosing something that already feels like a good date — because when you’re comfortable and enjoying yourselves, the photos naturally reflect that.
